Abstract

The aim of this article is to explore the factors that influence the multidimensional poverty of older adults in Mexico and in particular, to analyze how these differ between women and men. For which multinomial logistic regression models were estimated by sex, based on data from the National Survey of Household Income and Expenditure 2020. The results show that the condition of economic activity is the factor with the greatest effect on the odds ratio of older adults of being multidimensionally poor or vulnerable due to social deprivation or for income. Older adult women dedicated to the home or with some permanent disability, which inhibit them from working; present a high probability index of vulnerability or poverty. Additionally, in the absence of a contributory pension or savings, a significant percentage continues in low-paid economic activities, that do not allow them to guarantee their economic security.
