Patent Activity on the Internet of Things for Traffic Management

Abstract

The Internet of Things (IoT) has gained importance in the last decade. Its applications in the design of smart cities have contributed to address problems of security, energy, health, tourism, mobility, among others. In terms of mobility —especially traffic management— they play an important role given the growth of large cities in order to improve public transport, road safety and road freight, based on ict solutions. This study is based on the review of patents to contextualize the evolution of IoT over time, the technological developments, as well as the conditions for generating technologies and their application in building traffic solutions.
