Resumen
La identificación del sujeto emprendedor ha ocupado a la ciencia económica durante los últimos tres siglos; sin embargo, el entendimiento de su conducta requiere del concurso de diversas disciplinas. El presente trabajo tiene el propósito de contribuir a la comprensión de este fenómeno en crecimiento en los países en desarrollo de América Latina. Para ello se abordan algunos marcos conceptuales que tratan de encontrar los factores que explican por qué unas personas deciden iniciar un nuevo negocio por cuenta propia. Se muestra que los modelos de intención de corte psicosocial, al considerar al emprendimiento como una acción planeada, pueden ser útiles para entender la conducta emprendedora en la región.
